TANGO ARGENTINO & YOU

Born on the darker side of Argentinean life and culture, this dance has roots going all the way back to Africa, birthplace of humanity.

TANGO music has three main expressions, with timing in 2/4 & 4/4 & 4/8 time and found great popularity in the Rio de la Plata region in Argentina and spread from all over the world. This dance of the brothels defied all resistance by polite society and now proudly takes its place as a dance of skill and craft, as did the Waltz.

The word also describes this type of African-origin music, marked by rhythm played on a "tamboril" (kind of drum) and couples' dance performed in close embrace, making simple, sometimes intricate stepping patterns. Tango's ancestors included musical styles of Candombe, Habanera, and Milonga, a word which also describs the place where the blacks congregated to dance to the rhythm of drums.

TANGO STYLES:
Salon, Milonguero, Club, Orillero, Canyengue, Nuevo Tango, Fantasia, Liquid Tango, and the latest, Nuevo Milonguero!
